Don’t Wish Me “Luck” (The Power of Prayer)

“Good luck!” We all say those words to each other before certain events. Around St. Patrick’s Day in particular, thoughts of luck abound. With such phrases as “luck of the Irish” on the tips of our tongues, we dream about the fabled “pot of gold” at the end of the rainbow.

Luck is universal, all-encompassing, and the person knows we care when we wish them “good luck.” Everyone understands it.

But is it really what we mean? Do we honestly believe our fates are decided by pure luck?

Jesus didn’t rely on luck; He relied on the Father. He prayed for assistance through trials and for God’s will in everything.

When we have Jesus in our lives, we don’t need to rely on a concept as fleeting and unpredictable as luck. God knows everything that was, is, and ever will be. Even further, God is never-changing. There is no need to rely on luck when you place your life in God’s hands.

So, next time an appropriate situation arises, don’t wish a person luck -- pray for him or her instead. See what happens when you trust in God and ask HIM for “luck.” Personally, I’d rather have God over good old-fashioned luck any day!

God is the true “pot of Gold”! There is none besides Him.

~…so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other. (Isaiah 45:6)~

- 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

…so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other.

- Isaiah 46:9

Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.
- Isaiah 46:9

…the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
- Romans 8:26-27

"Therefore say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign LORD.' "
- Ezekiel 12:28

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
- 1 Peter 2:15-17

So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
- 1 Peter 4:19

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
- Matthew 26:39

Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. "Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
